The provision of an environment where everyone feels safe and empowered while practicing sports is a must nowadays and with this in mind, the European Volleyball Confederation has finalised and published its very first, historic safeguarding guidelines specifically designed for children playing Volleyball. The document titled ‘CEV Guardians of the Court – A Guide to Safeguarding Children in Volleyball and Beyond’ was produced in cooperation with Elena Mujoska from the Macedonian Society of Penology.

An experienced Research Fellow and Assistant Professor at the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts specialising in criminal law and penology, Mujoska holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje and brings a wealth of expertise in policy analysis, data analysis, legal research, and public speaking too.
The release of the document is testament to the CEV’s commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment in Volleyball. Therefore, this guide is much more than just a document – it is a promise to ensure that every child stepping onto a volleyball court feels safe, supported, and protected. The guidelines are filled with practical advice and actionable steps for coaches, clubs, parents, and organisations to help create an environment where young players can thrive and unleash their full potential while having fun and making long lasting friendships.
This publication follows the presentation on CEV Children Safeguarding Guideline in an important session with Elena Mujoska from the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Together, we emphasized the need for proactive measures to ensure a safe and thriving environment for young athletes.

The guidelines have been produced in conjunction with the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’ 2.0 – which is financially supported by the EU Erasmus+ programme and involves a variety of partners from across Europe.

After the release of these guidelines, the CEV will continue their work to make Volleyball a safe and welcoming space for every child.
